Egypt and the EU signed two grants worth 55.8 million euros, to be directed to the water and renewable energy sectors.
The documents were inked on the sidelines of Africa 2018 Forum, hosted by the Red Sea resort city of Sharm El Sheikh. Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli witnessed the signing ceremony. The ministers of investment, water resources, and local development along with the deputy housing minister signed the first grant, worth 45.8 million, with Ambassador of the EU in Cairo Ivan Surkos. The funds will be channeled into projects to improve the health and environmental conditions of the people in Kafr El Sheikh, Gharbiya, and Dakahlia. Investment Minister Sahar Nasr and Surkos signed the other grant, worth 10 million euros. It is meant to boost the renewable energy sector. Surkos said the EU grants to Egypt have reached a total of 1.3 billion euros in all domains. |
