Minister of Trade and Industry Amr Nassar conferred with Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Secretary General Chileshe Kapwepwe on means to boost cooperation between Egypt and the COMESA member states during the coming period.
Nassar said that Egypt welcomed Tunisia's admission into COMESA as a full member and approved a request filed by Somalia to rejoin the organization. Nassar asserted that the Egyptian economic and trade policy aims at boosting cooperation with all the COMESA member states and handling different files with clarity and transparency to achieve common interest. He backed the proposal of establishing a new headquarters for COMESA to enable it to live up to its important role in supporting regional integration between the countries in Eastern and Southern Africa. The meeting reviewed Egypt's hosting of the meeting of the heads of civil aviation authorities of the COMESA member states on December 19-20, Nassar said. Egypt is looking forward to hosting the 22nd summit of COMESA, he also said, adding that the government is ready to provide all what is needed for rendering this summit successful. Meanwhile, Kapwepwe asserted the importance of Egypt's role to achieve integration and partnership among all the African countries especially the COMESA nations. The COMESA is totally ready to implement all the initiatives launched by Egypt to develop cooperation between both sides especially in the field of infrastructure and boosting intra-African trade. |
