Minister of Investment and International Cooperation Sahar Nasr launched Egypt's national population strategy.
The European Union supports the strategy with a grant of 540 million pounds.. The strategy aims at spreading awareness among young males and females about the importance of family planning and scaling up family planning services, including contraceptives.. It also targets promoting institutional capabilities to follow up and coordinate the implementation of the strategy and develop a cost-effective national plan for family planning.. Under the strategy, a high-level inter-ministerial task force will be formed to tackle population issues.. The strategy was formulated in cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Nasr said, adding that the Egyptian government is cooperating with the UNFPA and the European Union to facilitate the practical implementation of the strategy among Egyptian citizens. She noted that high-level coordination is maintained with the Health Ministry to implement this strategy, extending thanks to the European Union and UNFPA for supporting this initiative.. Meanwhile, EU Ambassador in Cairo Ivan Surkos said that the strategy comes as part of the European Union cooperation with the Egyptian government to spread awareness among youth about the importance of family planning.. He added that the strategy aims to ensure the improvement and provision of family planning services in Egypt. . Achieving a sustainable population growth contributes to meeting the aspirations of the people for a better life and having an equal access to basic services, he said. |
