The Egyptian and Omani private sectors play a pivotal role in promoting economic cooperation between both countries, Minister of Trade and Industry Amr Nassar said.
Nassar made his remark during a speech before the first meeting of the Egyptian-Omani Business Council, which kicked off earlier in the day in the Omani capital Muscat. Egyptian Ambassador in Muscat Mohamed Ghoniem, Chairman and CEO of Orascom Development Holding Samih Sawiris, who leads the Egyptian side, and Director of Al Hosni Group International Nasr Al Hosni, who leads the Omani side attended the meeting. The council's meeting, co-chaired by the Egyptian and Omani ministers of trade and industry, demonstrates the genuine willingness of the Egyptian and Omani governments to bolster economic cooperation, Nassar said, asserting the need to come up with effective and practical recommendations. Nassar noted that the council was formed as a fruitful result of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's visit to the sultanate in February 2018, which helped open up broader prospects for economic and trade cooperation. The Egyptian government will spare no efforts to bolster cooperation ties between both countries, the minister said. He added that he is looking forward to organizing an exhibition and festival for Egyptian products in Oman, inviting the Omani side to the second meeting of the council in Cairo during the first half of 2020 to probe investment and trade opportunities. Nassar underlined the need to activate the council's role to bring about a significant shift in mutual cooperation, especially in logistics and maritime transport connectivity, given the unique geographical location of both countries. Head of the Egyptian Commercial Office in Dubai Younan Edward and Commercial Attaché Ahmed Salah were also in attendance. |
