By 2030 about two-thirds of global extreme poor will be living in fragile and conflict-affected situations, making global poverty goals hard to be met, according to a recent report released by the World Bank.
Fragility and Conflict: On the Front Lines of the Fight Against Poverty shows that the 43 countries in the world with the highest poverty rates in fragile and conflict-affected situations are in Sub-Saharan Africa. "Globally, the prevalence of fragile and conflict-affected situations continues to rise. The number of forcibly displaced people worldwide has more than doubled since 2012, exceeding 74 million in 2018," according the report. The report estimated, as well, that 500 million people live in fragile and conflict-affected situation economies, while 33 million additional people are estimated to live in extreme poverty. Of these, 17 million additional poor are in fragile and conflict-affected situations, resulting in a seven percent increase in the number of poor in these economies. |
