Minister of Transport Kamel El Wazir said the government’s efforts to strengthen local auto industries, including eco-friendly electric buses, are in line with the political leadership’s directives for a 100 per cent local manufacturing content.
These efforts are also made in furtherance of the outcome of the last global climate summit, COP27, held in Sharm El Sheikh last month, Wazir added during the signing ceremony of a contract between the State Ministry of Military Production and the Arab Union for Land Transport Company (Superjet Lines), which is affiliated to the Transport Ministry. The EGP 680 million contract involves manufacturing and purchasing 100 MCV SETIBUS C120E.V locally-made electric buses to be used in Phase 1 of a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line along Greater Cairo's Ring Road. The deal aims to increase the number of buses along the freeway circling Cairo, in parallel with the completion of the project's 2nd phase with a total distance of 110 km. Hailing the ministry's fruitful cooperation with the private sector on that score, Wazir said all buses will be approved by a technical committee formed upon the directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to ensure that all units meet global standards of quality as well as the needs of the persons with disabilities. |
