Concluding his participation in the Africa Prosperity Dialogue Series (APDS) hosted by Ghana on January 26-28, Minister of Trade and Industry Ahmed Samir held extensive meetings with a large number of senior officials, ministers, and business leaders in the Middle East and Africa.
During a meeting with Ghana's Acting Minister of Trade and Industry Samuel Abu Jinapor, Samir reviewed how to boost mutual cooperation at the commercial, industrial, and investment levels, noting that Ghana is the largest recipient of Egyptian exports and investments in West Africa, the Egyptian ministry said in a press release. Samir also underlined the need to work on exchanging trade missions over the period ahead to explore the potential of Egyptian and Ghanaian companies on the ground. Egypt's exports to Ghana saw a 200 per cent increase over the past couple years, hitting $238 million during 2022, against $78 million recorded in 2020, Samir said, emphasizing the importance of working for making the utmost use of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement for greater volume of bilateral trade. Meanwhile, Jinapor thanked the Egyptian government for participating in the summit, commending the robust historical ties binding the sisterly African nations. Other prominent figures the minister met at the end of the Africa-wide event include the chairman of Ghana Investment Promotion Center (GIPC), Secretary General of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Wamkele Mene, CEO of UAE Trade Center Walid Hareb Al Falahi, the Gabonese minister of trade and SMEs, and the deputy minister of trade and industry in South Africa. |
