Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala el-Saeed met with Omani Minister of Finance Sultan bin Salem bin Saeed Al-Habsi and Oman Investment Authority (OIA) chairman Abdulsalam Al-Murshidi for co-operation talks.
The meeting was on the sidelines of the Egyptian-Omani Businessmen Forum during the visit by Omani Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to Cairo. The forum highlighted investment opportunities available in both countries and economic partnerships. El-Saeed and Omani officials discussed means to increase investments between the Sovereign Fund of Egypt (TSFE) and the Omani Investment Authority during the coming period. El-Saeed reviewed the investment facilities and procedures to encourage local and foreign business people to invest more in Egypt. There is a real will to expand Omani investments in Egypt in partnership with the Sovereign Fund of Egypt and a number of Egyptian private sector companies,” she said. For his part, Abdulsalam Al-Murshidi said his country is willing to expand co-operation with Egypt in pharmaceuticals, food and renewable energy. Trade exchange between Oman and Egypt rose to $1.02 billion in 2022 compared to $566.1 million in 2021, Al-Murshidi said. The OIA manages its investments in 40 countries (including Egypt) through the National Development Portfolio and the Future Generations Fund, Al-Murshidi added, noting that OIA works with other government departments to attract foreign investment to Oman, where 36 investment opportunities were offered in the Invest Oman campaign. The OIA has investments in Egypt’s private sector, he said, voicing hope that the Sultan’s visit will enhance joint investments. |
