The year 2023 is a remarkable year for co-operation between Egypt and India.
This statement by Minister of International Co-operation Rania el-Mashaat said came during her meeting with Indian Ambassador in Cairo Ajit Gupte. The two officials discussed mechanisms for enhancing strategic co-operation between both countries in the light of the ministry’s presidency of the Indian Unit in the Cabinet. “The past few months have seen multiple high-level visits between Egypt and India. At the beginning of this year, President Abdel-Fattah El Sisi visited India as a chief guest at Republic Day celebration, where we signed an agreement to elevate bilateral relations to a strategic partnership. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also visited Egypt in June,” the minister said. “The government is looking forward to enhancing co-operation with the Indian side in the pharmaceutical industry, supporting small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), handicraft industries and combating poverty,” the minister added. For his part, the Indian envoy praised the historic ties between his country and Egypt as two of the world’s most ancient civilisations that have been in close contact for many centuries. Gupte noted that in light of the recent threats facing the world it was “imperative that the countries come closer to realise a sustainable solution.” Referring to the G20 summit due to be held in New Delhi next September, he expressed his hope that the summit’s discussions, led by India, will become fruitful and support developing countries in its development efforts and boost the facilitated finance for climate action. |
