Egypt signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with China to open the Chinese market to Egyptian mangoes, according to a statement by the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation.
The MoU was signed on Saturday by Egypt's Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation El-Sayed El-Quseir and China's Deputy Minister of Customs Wang Lingjun. El-Quseir hailed the MoU as a milestone in Egyptian-Chinese trade relations. "The Egyptian agricultural sector has enjoyed an unprecedented boom during the past nine years," he added. The agriculture minister claimed that many countries worldwide are rushing to order Egyptian mangoes due to their high quality. For his part, Wang noted that the presence of Egyptian commodities in the Chinese market has grown by 30 percent in recent years. Last August, El-Quseir and his Chinese counterpart signed a deal to collaborate on developing drought and salt-tolerant crops. The deal forms part of a three-year (2023-2025) agricultural cooperation plan between the two countries. Egypt is the world's tenth largest mango exporter, exporting to a range of European markets, as well as Arab countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Lebanon. |
