Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation Rania el Mashat has participated in launching the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty proposed by Brazil's G20 presidency and announced by Brazilian President Luíz Inácio Lula da Silva in the G20 Summit in New Delhi, India, according to a statement released by the planning ministry .

Mashat said the launch of the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty will enhance countries' capacity to implement sustainable policies to offer services to the lowest-income groups in light of the successive challenges facing a large number of states that have undermined their ability to achieve food security and provide social protection for their citizens.

The minister stated that the world has experienced serious and complex challenges, citing the coronavirus pandemic, the Russian-Ukrainian war, and geopolitical tensions, in addition to the disruption in supply chains and rising prices.

Mashat noted that achieving the alliance's goals would contribute to mobilizing financial resources for countries that are unable to provide the necessary financing for food security and social protection programs.

The World Bank Group has unveiled a partnership with the G20 Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty to reach at least 500 million people in need, enable vulnerable people to increase earnings, enhance resilience against climate shocks, and promote empowerment for women and girls.

The alliance, slated to be officially launched during the G20 Leaders' Summit in November, aims to implement a mechanism to mobilize funds and knowledge to support the expansion of policies and programs to combat inequality and poverty, according to a statement from Brazil’s G20 press office .

The alliance comprises G20 countries (Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Republic of Korea, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States, in addition to 2 regional bodies: the African Union and the European Union.

It also includes international organizations such as the Islamic Development Bank, the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the World Trade Organization, the UNESCO, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the International Fund for Agricultural Development, the World Food Program and the World Health Organization, as well as others.
