Ministry of Environment Approves 8 New Projects

The National Committee for Clean Development Mechanism, held the twelfth meeting at the Cultural, environmental, educational Center (Cairo house) affiliated to Ministry of Environment, chaired by Engineer Maged George, Minister of State for Environmental Affairs and attended by representatives of competent ministries, including petroleum and investment ministries in addition to Tiben Institute in order to issue letters of approval for 8 projects, including generating power using biological waste and generating biogas from the treated sewage water as well as using it to generate heat.

The projects also include the use of liquefied carbon dioxide with capacity of 2.5 tons / hour in manufacturing urea fertilizers, as well as the expansion of coke gas instead of diesel at stoves and fuel switching from mazot to natural gas.

During the meeting the minister issued final approval for 3 projects including the establishment of wind farm capacity of 85 MW at elzafarana (New and Renewable Energy Authority) and the fuel switching of the national cement company and reducing proportion of clinker in production of mixed cement.

These projects will achieve an annual reduction for carbon dioxide equivalent of 693200 tons; it is worth mentioning that the National Commission is composed of the Bureau and the Council for the clean development mechanism.
