Egypt Participates in the Regional Forum for Hazardous Wastes

A delegation from the Ministry of State for Environmental Affairs participated in the activities of the Regional Forum on Hazardous Wastes in the Arab region, in the Jordanian capital Amman, which was organized by the Technical Secretariat of Basel Convention on the control of transboundary movements of hazardous wastes.

Egypt participated in the activities of the Forum with a working paper about the Egyptian control mechanisms of the transboundary movement of hazardous wastes. The Regional Forum attended by Arab States (Morocco, Tunisia, Sudan, UAE, Palestine, Bahrain, Yemen).

The Forum addressed several topics including the draft of the Arab strategy for controlling illegal smuggle of hazardous wastes and controlling the exercises of the States in the region in addition to the effective implementation of Basel Convention on the national level and methods of hazardous waste inventory.

It is Worthy to mention that Basel Convention aims at controlling of transboundary movements of hazardous wastes, as well as assisting developing countries at hazardous wastes management and final disposal and safe environment in addition to reducing the rates of waste generation.
