The area cultivated with wheat this season has exceeded three million feddans compared to 2.8 million in 2011, due to the farmers growing more areas after the government earlier this year announced that it would raise the price of purchase to 400 pounds for erdeb. Minister of Agriculture Salah Abdul Mo'men said that Prime Minister Hisham Qandil assigned a ministerial committee to lay down a full-fledged plan for as good storage as possible to reach a targeted amount of 6 million tons instead of the current storage capacity of 4 million tons.
