Cairo has contributed to securing part of Europe’s energy needs during the global crisis, thanks to Egypt’s special position as a regional hub for energy, said Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Tarek El Molla.
The minister made his remarks at a roundtable meeting with members of the Egypt-US Business Council and the US chamber of commerce in Washington within the framework of his current visit to the United States. The current challenges of world energy markets underlined the importance of Egypt’s preemptive efforts exerted since 2018, he said, highlighting Cairo’s role in the formation of the East Mediterranean Gas Forum that led to increasing effective regional integration to speed up development progress of natural gas resources in the region. He discussed with US Deputy Secretary of Energy David Turk means to expedite enhancing bilateral cooperation in different fields with focus on limiting emissions. The minister also shed light on Egypt’s great efforts on investing in domains related to green transition, petroleum, natural gas, climate change and energy supply, among others. El Molla also had meetings with two US congressmen to probe means on cementing energy-linked cooperation between Egypt and the US. |
