State Minister of Environment Affairs Layla Eskandar had cooperation talks on 7/8/2013 with the World Bank (WB) delegation.
The delegation’s visit to Egypt, led by Charles Cormier, the Sector Manager of Energy and Environment for the Middle East and North Africa at the World Bank, aims at drawing up a three-year program to implement infrastructure, environment and sustainable development projects in Egypt with the help of the WB. Eskandar reviewed at the meeting the ministry's new vision on handling solid waste which is expected to be applied nationwide. She said an agreement was reached with the delegation on the WB's possible contribution to help in turning this vision into reality by offering it all needed technical support. Talks also covered the national plan to cope with climate change and Egypt's efforts to realize sustainable development through the application of clean production technologies, reducing industrial pollution levels and implementing sanitary drainage projects in rural areas. They also discussed the third phase of a national industrial pollution control project and the WB assistance to environment-friendly small- and medium-sized enterprises carried out by youth. |
