Egypt and Tunisia share the same views regarding challenges facing the region, Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab has said.

In a meeting with Egyptian and Tunisian businessmen at the Egyptian Embassy HQ in Tunis on 9/9/2015, Mahlab said his visit to Tunisia is "successful" and "an important step" on the road of bilateral cooperation.

He encouraged the businessmen to establish joint investment projects and benefit from the investment-friendly atmosphere in Egypt.

Mahlab also touched upon the outcome of joint high committee meetings, which were held.

Sixteen memorandums of understanding were signed, the premier told the businessmen. The high committee meetings also focused on means to boost cultural, health and pharmaceutical cooperation, Mahlab said.

The meetings also tackled trilateral cooperation between Egypt, Tunisia and Africa, he added.

Mahlab assured the businessmen that Egypt is on the right track and that many investment opportunities are up for grabs.

He talked about Egyptian achievements, atop of which the New Suez Canal, which was inaugurated on August 6. The digging of the new waterway is only part of a larger project to develop the Suez Canal region, Mahlab told the businessmen.

He also talked about a housing project meant to establish one million residential units in five years. About 200,000 residential units should be built in the first year, Mahlab noted.

Egypt, Mahlab said, is fighting a war against terrorism, which has no country or religion. He pressed for international action to counter terrorism.

The premier also pointed to Egyptian-Tunisian coordination in dealing with the Libya file. Cairo and Tunis are acting to protect Libya's unity and help Libyans form a national government, he noted.

The Syrian crisis also figured high in the higher committee meetings, Mahlab said, stressing that Syrian refugees in Egypt are well treated.

Mahlab told the businessmen that the Egyptian market is a good exporter of construction materials that can very well be used to reconstruct Libya once stability is restored there.
