Undersecretary of the UAE Ministry of Economy, Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Saleh, and Paraguayan Deputy Minister of Foreign Relations, Oscar Cabello Sarubbi, have met to discuss ways of increasing trade and promoting economic and investment relations between the two countries.

In his remarks at the meeting, Al Saleh noted that trade between the UAE and Uruguay stood at US$55 million in 2014 and that 40 Uruguayan trademarks are registered with the Ministry of Economy.

The UAE official said the UAE has the desire to explore investment opportunities in Uruguay, in sectors like agriculture, animal resources and raw materials.

"Thanks to the directives of its wise leadership, the UAE has made many economic achievements despite the difficult global economic conditions in the past years, which has had varying impacts on most countries," the undersecretary of the UAE ministry of economy said, adding that the national economy has maintained good growth rates despite falling oil prices and global economic slowdown.

The UAE is upgrading its economic legislation including the foreign investment law which is expected to be announced soon, Al Saleh further noted.

Paraguayan Deputy Minister of Foreign Relations, Oscar Cabello Sarubbi, expressed his country's interest in stronger trade and investment relations with the UAE and noted that the two countries can also explore potential partnerships in industrial and agricultural sectors.
