A delegation from the Dubai Foundation for the Development of Investment, DFDI, part of the Department of Economic Development, DED, in the Emirate of Dubai, visited Italy and Japan to brief representatives of both public and private sectors and investors on the dynamic fast-growing sectors and economic and promising investment opportunities in Dubai.

The visits took place recently within the framework of the organisation's strategy to attract foreign capital and investments to the Dubai market to supplement the march of its development projects.

Fahad Al Gergawi, CEO of DFDI, said that the focus on innovation and knowledge in the new economic strategy of the Emirate of Dubai, and the hosting of Expo 2020, carries with it many current and future opportunities for investors from all over the world, especially for those who have expertise in the latest technology, services and infrastructure development.

"For Dubai FDI, 2015 has been a hectic year as we stepped up our investor outreach with focus on strategic markets, industries and investors. Our missions to Italy and Japan have helped us break new channels for engagement and welcoming investors from critical industries to Dubai," added Al Gergawi.

During the visit, the Dubai Investment delegation held meetings in the Tokyo and Osaka to discuss ways of cooperation and facilitate investment, along with conducting direct meetings with leading Japanese companies.

Ibrahim Ahli, Director of the Investment Promotion Department at the DFDI, signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with the Nomura Research Institute, NRI, which is the largest Japanese research and consulting company to cooperate in the areas of investment and the exchange of knowledge.

"We held discussions with the Japan Bank for International Cooperation in Osaka on working together to connect their clients to Dubai. In Tokyo, we exchanged ideas with the Japan External Trade Organisation on how Japanese businesses can better serve markets in the Middle East and adjoining regions through Dubai," Ahli added.

In Italy, the Dubai FDI team met with representatives of 30 companies from the healthcare, fashion, construction, information and communication technology, heavy engineering and electronics industries across four cities, Rome, Ancona, Florence and Brescia.
