UAE Trade and Investment Mission Leave to Singapore

A 35-member trade and investment mission will travel tomorrow to Singapore on a two-day visit for talks with senior Singaporean officials and private sector representatives on ways of increasing trade exchange and forging a vibrant joint strategic investment partnership between the two friendly nations.

''The visit provides a fitting opportunity to explore prospects for joint cooperation in many areas including exchanging best practices in innovation and entrepreneurship and laws regulating them aas well as sharing knowledge to find creative solutions to the most pressing challenges to sustainable development,'' Abdullah Al Saleh, Undersecretary of Ministry of Economy for Foreign Trade and Industry, told the Emirates News Agency (WAM) on the eve of the visit. The Ministry of Economy is organising the trade mission as part of its plan to promote national products and open up new markets for UAE exports.

He added that his talks with top Singaporean officials would focus on a wide-range of issues concerning sustainable development, innovation, entrepreneurship and business development. The two sides, he said, would also explore means of encouraging innovation for building a more sustainable, flexible economy in line with the UAE Vision 2021 to become one of the world's best governments.

While in Singapore, Saleh will deliver the keynote address to the UAE-Singapore Business Forum and visit a number of centres for researches and innovation.

The trade and investment mission comprises top government officials, heads of departments of economic development, CEOs of major companies and representatives of banks, chambers of commerce and industry, free trade and economic zones.

Statistics of Ministry of Economy showed that value of foreign trade between the UAE and Singapore - including trade from free zones - stood at about AED 20 billion (US$ 5.5 billion) in 2015, an increase of 27% as compared to 2014.

As many as 57 Singaporean companies, 56 trade agencies and 2,412 trademarks have been registered with the Ministry of Economy.
