Minister of Public Business Sector Hisham Tawfiq discussed with Minister of Agriculture Ezziddin Abu Steit major problems and challenges that face the spinning and weaving industry, mainly the cotton planting file and means to avoid factors that lead to cotton crop pollution starting from its delivery to ginning mills and all throughout its manufacturing process.
The move comes in light of the outcome of the previous meetings that the public business sector minister held with Trade and Industry Minister Amr Nassar along with a number of cotton experts and manufacturers from both private and public sectors, said a statement by the Public Business Sector Ministry . Tawfiq asserted that the political leadership attaches great importance to the development of the spinning and weaving industry, underscoring the importance of cooperation among all concerned ministries and bodies on that score. For his part, the agriculture minister highlighted the strategic importance of the cotton crop, saying that efforts must be made to restore the international prominence of the Egyptian cotton. Abu Steit underlined that his ministry is okay with allowing the planting of short-staple cotton, in areas that are far from zones where long-staple cotton is planted, so that local companies would stop importing this kind of cotton. Coordination meetings are set to be maintained among the ministries concerned in the spinning and weaving sectors until solutions to the long-lasting problems facing the cotton industry would be reached, he promised. |
