The Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Emirates Intellectual Property Association signed a memorandum of understanding to increase the level of cooperation concerning intellectual property rights and the importance of spreading awareness on the legal aspects of intellectual property in the community and the best international practices in registering intellectual property rights in innovation and creativity.
His Excellency Mohamed Helal Al Mheiri, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Chamber, signed the MoU on behalf of the Abu Dhabi Chamber; whereas Dr. Major-General Abdul Qudoos Abdul Razzaq Al Obaidly, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Quality and Excellence in Dubai Police and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the EIPA, signed the document on behalf of his organization. H.E. Al Mheiri emphasized on the interest of the government of the UAE in increasing the level of awareness in intellectual property in all economic and scientific aspects and the importance of guaranteeing property rights to their owners because it would encourage innovation and creativity and helps in launching new initiatives in a transparent and creative environment. He added that the UAE is one of the countries which took important measures to protect intellectual properties. The Director General pointed out that the Abu Dhabi Chamber adopted the principles and basics of intellectual property rights to be a platform to build an integrated economy built on knowledge and innovation, pointing to the role of the Abu Dhabi Chamber as being the economic representative of the business environment in the emirate. For his part, Dr. Major-General Abdul Qudoos Abdul Razzaq Al Obaidly, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Quality and Excellence in Dubai Police and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the EIPA, said that by signing the MoU, the association is looking to signing new strategic partnerships with different social sectors and to provide the necessary support and spread awareness on intellectual property. He pointed out that the UAE made advanced steps in protecting intellectual property, praising the role of the Abu Dhabi Chamber in spreading awareness amongst owners of small and medium enterprises and the entire business community on the laws of intellectual property and its importance to an ever growing investment and trade environment.
