Minister of Trade and Industry Amr Nassar said the ministry is seeking the help of international export agencies to promote Egyptian exports abroad especially the Small and Medium-Scale Enterprises (SMEs).
The minister's remarks were made during his participation in a symposium organized by the Egyptian-Canadian Business Council in cooperation with the Egyptian Business Council for International Cooperation under the title of "Industrial Development..Between Opportunities and Challenges". Nassar also said a study is currently underway to establish a national company for promotion of Egyptian products in international markets, citing the experience of Japan in this regard with 97 percent of its economy depending on the micro and small-scale projects. The minister asserted that the government is deeply interested in supporting any new programs to promote for increasing exports with special focus on beefing up the local industry and increasing the value-added tax. Nassar noted that the government's top priority is the development file and modernization of the industrial sector in the coming phase in order to propel economic growth and create more job opportunities for youth. He made it clear that the industry has suffered many challenges over the past period, a matter which prompted the Ministry of Industry to launch a promising strategy for enhancing industrial development and foreign trade till 2020 to open up markets for Egyptian products abroad. Nassar also reiterated that the Ministry is exerting strenuous efforts to increase the Egyptian industrial products and penetrate the markets in eastern Europe, central Asia and Africa. There is also coordination with a number of major companies to beef up the Egyptian products presence in the African market given the fact that Africa is a market of high investment revenues due to its big size, added the minister. He also noted that the Ministry of Industry organized a businessmen mission in mid March to promote for Egyptian exports in the Ugandan capital Kampala, adding that more trade missions will be organized in the coming phase. |
