Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker had talks with German State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy Andreas Feicht on developing the energy sector.
The meeting took place on the fringe of the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue in Germany, with Egyptian Ambassador in Berlin Badr Abdel Aati attending. They also reviewed means of increasing dependency on renewable energy sources, citing the world's largest solar power installation in Benban in Upper Egypt. For his part, the German official asserted his country's keenness on consolidating ties with Germany in the energy domain in view of Egypt's crucial role in the Middle East and North Africa and its efforts to turn into a regional energy hub. Benban Solar Park is a photovoltaic power station under construction, with a planned total capacity of 1650 MWp which corresponds to an annual production of approximately 3.8 TWh. It is located in Benban, Aswan governorate in the western desert, approximately 650 km south of Cairo and 40 km northwest of Aswan. |
