President Abdel Fattah El Sisi instructed the government to keep up efforts to complete its housing and utilities projects on time and in conformity with the agreed upon quality standards.
This came during a meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli and Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Development Asem el Gazzar. Sisi noted that the new projects must bring about a real change in citizens' life. Briefing the president on the latest progress in a number of under-construction projects nationwide, topped by the new cities in Upper Egypt and the northern coast region, Gazzar said that construction works are going on as scheduled, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady said. Gazzar also reviewed the implementation status of several road utilities projects nationwide, especially the Assiut Plateau Axis Road project. This road corridor will pave the way for building a new urban community hosting residential, economic and industrial zones that will help lure more investments and create job opportunities for Upper Egyptian youth, the minister said. The meeting also took up efforts afoot to improve the area of Sur Magra El Oyoun in Old Cairo as part of a government plan to preserve the historical identity and heritage of the ancient landmark, Rady added. Shedding light on the latest developments on the government’s social housing project, Gazzar said about four million citizens have applied for social housing units over the past five years. The project is expected to provide nearly 1.5 million job opportunities for construction workers, Gazzar noted. |
