Georgia’s Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Gakharia said his country wanted to increase cooperation with Egypt, particularly in areas of mutual interest and comparative advantage, such as the investment, tourism, education, transport, logistics, and cultural sectors.
Gakharia was speaking at a meeting with Egypt’s Minister of Investment and International Cooperation Sahar Nasr, on the sidelines of the Silk Road Forum that kicked off in Georgia on Tuesday. He also praised the success of Egypt’s economic reform. At the meeting, Nasr stressed the importance of enhancing bilateral economic tie, adding that Egypt participated in the Silk Road Forum to boost partnership with countries situated on the Silk Road. The two sides agreed to convene the Egyptian-Georgian committee in the Georgian capital Tbilisi in March 2020. The committee has not met since 2010. Nasr invited Gakharia to take part in the Invest for Africa Forum, scheduled to be held in Cairo on 22 November. The forum aims to promote venture opportunities in African markets. Nasr met with Georgian Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Natela Turnava who asserted that her country was eager to increase investments in Egypt’s markets due to the legislative procedures that Egypt has adopted recently to improve the investment climate. The two sides considered convening an Egyptian-Georgian investment forum to encourage businessmen from the two countries to increase their investments and establish joint projects. |
