Rice smuggling to neighboring Arab countries is continuing at a rate of not less than 300 tons daily. This was reported in the media quoting Mr. Ragab Shehata, Head of the Rice Branch at Alexandria Grain Industry Chamber identifying those who are doing that as gangsters. Mr. Shehata noted that he has reported this to all concerned officials in the country. He stressed on rice smuggling through the boarders with Sudan executed via containers. He also revealed that rice is sold in those countries at $ 900 per ton, which compares with L.E. 3,600 locally. N.B. The fact is that the issue was repeatedly reported in the local media over the past weeks.
