The Abu Dhabi Traffic held in the first half of this year 104 vehicles, mostly owned by GCC drivers, in connection with covering up the plate numbers. Brig. Eng. Hussein Al Harethi, Director of the Department of Traffic and Patrols at Abu Dhabi Police said the motorists manipulate the plate numbers to evade the payment of traffic fines and avoid the radar detections. He added that the traffic police managed to specify the offenders on the roads and booked them.

For his part, Col. Hamad Al Balooshi, Director of the Department of Outposts Traffic at the Department of Traffic and Patrols at Abu Dhabi Police, revealed that 80 vehicles were seized in Western Region, while 22 vehicles were held in Al Mafraq and two vehicles in Al Ain. He stressed that these violations were repeated by certain Gulf nationalities, who deliberately put pieces of paper or spray sand or mud on the plates with the aim of changing the parameters of such plates, and hence escape the radar detection.
