Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has completed building the water reservoir at Al Lusaily. At a cost of AED 246 million, the reservoir has a storage capacity of 120 million gallons of desalinated water. It will increase Dubai’s total water reserves to 790 million gallons. All civil construction works and 50% of the mechanical works at the reservoir have now been completed.
"DEWA works to meet customers’ expectations according to the highest standards of reliability, efficiency, and safety. The project includes building two reservoirs with a storage capacity of 120 million gallons of desalinated water. This will strengthen the water network and increase water storage capacity in different parts of Dubai. The first reservoir is expected to be completed in December 2014, at a capacity of 60 million gallons, and the second in January 2015 at the same capacity," said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director & CEO of DEWA. "The completion of this project will increase the total storage capacity of DEWA to 790 million gallons compared to the current capacity of 670 million gallons. This increases daily storage to the equivalent of three days of water use by the Emirate of Dubai, which exceeds DEWA’s objectives to secure a minimum of two-day water reserves. This supports DEWA’s strategy to enhance efficiency and reliability of its water network and increase water flow volumes, to meet the increasing demand for water in different parts of Dubai," added Al Tayer. |
