South Korea provided a USD one million grant to help rebuild Iraqi cities liberated from the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and Levant (ISIL), UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) said. The grant will be directed to the UN Development Program's (UNDP) Funding Facility for Immediate Stabilization (FFIS) to finance fast-track initiatives in areas of Iraq liberated from ISIL, it said.

It added in a statement the donation would be used to repair civic infrastructure, including schools and primary healthcare centers, in newly liberated areas in Diyala, Salahuddine and Anbar Governorates.

Korea is supporting efforts of the government of Iraq to help recover and stabilize local communities affected by displacement and violence, Korean Ambassador in Baghdad Cho Jung-Won was quoted by the UNAMI statement as saying.

"We hope the second contribution will further assist the displaced Iraqis to return and begin the process of rebuilding their communities," he added. UNDP's FFIS was established at the request of the Prime Minister of Iraq Haidar Al-Abadi last June.

It is supported by the donor members of the global coalition to counter ISIL.
