A new businessmen organization was constituted and identified as the New Federation of Importers and Producers of Meat, Fish and Poultry. This was reported in the media quoting Mr. Samir Seweilam, Chairman of the new Federation, indicating that it was authenticated under membership of 73 companies representing 90% of the sector's importers. The Executive claimed members of the new federation import annually 240,000 tons of red meat, 220,000 tons of fish and 110,000 tons of poultry. He assured all members of the federation have signed a statute of honor under which they are committed to import red meat, fish and poultry matching all applicable safety and sanitarian codes. He further assured that violators of the above will be terminated from the federation and reported to all formal control authorities to be held accountable. N.B. The development followed recent disclosed facts and practices of some red meat, poultry meat and fish processing entities violating all food processing technologies and coming up with unhealthy, if not poisonous, products to the human health.
